Just made my first USB 3.1 Type C flash in simple Steampunk shape. Wanted to make it with Type C connector exactly, so bought Goodram 64GB flash drive with twin connectors. There is ordinary USB 3.1 connector on one end and Type C connector on the other. I don't have any devices with Type C port but can use USB 3.1, I have simple PCI-e card with 4 such ports.
Wanted to make something like pendant or keychain which can be used with some chain but happened not as good as I would like to be. But it is like it it is. Photos will be later.
Well, several pics for the history. All made from brass and copper, soldered with soft soldering alloy.
This is what was the device made from. The cap was removed and were made two new.
The flash is pretty small, so the new case will be not so big too. Due to the pair of connectors there should be two caps.
Design is simple with almost no parts on it, except of the one small gear from the old soviet times alarm clock.
USB 3.1 Type C connector can be used on Macs too. I hope so, I have no Macs so can't check it to ensure it really works on it.
The cap I decided to make for this connector. Maybe not so cool design but I wanted to make something useful and not very complex.
USB 3.1 connector's cap is usual for such types of connectors, nothing special. Holding frame can be rotated in both directions so it's possible to take off both caps to use the drive in required way to connect to any port.
This is it for now. Will post next my works when finish them. Have several flash drives working on but it takes a lot of time to build.
